5.2 Pre-pay Special Assessments CITY OF SALINA REQUEST FOR CITY COMMISSION ACTION DATE TIME 05/15/2006 4:00 P.M. AGENDA SECTION ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: APPROVED FOR NO: 5 AGENDA: FINANCE DEPARTMENT ITEM NO. 2 BY: Page 1 BY: Rod Franz ITEM: Resolution No. 06-6274 Declaring the intent of the City of Salina to pre-pay certain special assessments relating to specific lots, pieces and parcels of real estate within the improvement district for the South Marymount Street Improvements. BACKGROUND: The City of Salina has a long standing policy that a property should not be charged twice for the same benefit. In some cases, properties may be situated such that they fall within the area benefiting from two like improvements. In cases where this has occurred, the City has assumed the responsibility for the duplicated assessments. In the most recent improvements to Marymount Road, fourteen lots within Cedar Ridge Addition were defined as being within the benefit district for that collector street improvement, even though those lots have previously been charged a collector street assessment for the construction of Mariposa Drive. Resolution No. 06-6274 provides that the City of Salina will assume responsibility for the duplicated assessments. FISCAL NOTE: The total amount of assessments is $38,321.78. These will be pre-paid out of the Capital Contingency item in the annual budget RECOMMENDED ACTION: Pass Resolution No. 06-6274.
