PROCLAMATION
February 2006
Black History Month
WHEREAS:
Black History Month is an opportunity for all Americans to
honor the rich cultural heritage and legacy of people of
African descent and pay tribute to them and the community
organizations that contribute to the social, cultural, economic
and political life of Salina; and
WHEREAS:
the citizens of Salina have been in the forefront of efforts to
establish a caring, compassionate society based on the inherent
dignity of all its members by taking a leadership role aimed at
eliminating all forms of discrimination and disadvantage, and
by recognizing that a fundamental strength of our community
is based on the diversity among us.
NOW THEREFORE, I Deborah Divine, Mayor of the City of
Salina, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2006, Black
History Month and urge that every citizen of Salina join me
in celebrating the diversity and character of our community
and highlight the importance of sharing our culture, customs,
and traditions with those around us.
IN WI1NESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and
caused the seal of the City of Salina, Kansas, be affixed
this day, February 6,2006.
