To the Honorable Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas.
Gentlemen:
We, the undersigned residents of Sallna{ Kansas, and the owners of Lots
One (1) and Three (3) in Block Eight (81 in Leavenworth Addition to the
City of Salina, Kansas, do hereby petition your honorable body for the
amendment of the Boning ordinance of the City of Salina, Kansan, being
Chapter 37 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Salina, Kansas, 1939,
in such manner that said Lots One (1) and Three (3) in Block Eight (8)
in Leavenworth Addition to the City of Salina, Kansas, shall be placed
in "D" Light Industrial District for use as a carting, hauling, and
storage yard.
We assure you that no part of said premises will be used for auto wreck-
ing purposes. Our desire is to maintain an office in the "building now
on said premises and to store therein the tI~cks and cars we use in our
business. We own and operate towing trucks and, as a part of that busi-
ness, we tow for hire cars and trucks wrecked upon the public highways.
~ost of these are taken directly to repair shops. In same cases, how-
ever, the owners are unable to direct the disposal of their wrecked cars
and in such cases, we tow them to our place of business until suCh time
as the owner or an agent can direct their removal. We have operated
this business for several years and we seldom have had more than one or
two cars on hand at any time. We do not want them left with us and we
ask for their early removal. We never have and do not intend to dis-
mantle any of these cars at our place of business. If they are to be
repaired, they go to established auto repair shops. It' they are too
badly damaged to be repaired, they go to established auto wrecking yards.
We further reque3t your honorable body to fix a time :for hearing upon
this petition so t~at we can publish in the official city paper the
notice required by Section 29 of Ordinance Number 3188 of the City of
Salina, being Section 37-129 o:f the Revised Ordinances of the City ot'
Salina, 1939.
