New cylinder cups on 32 hydraulic valves for north eight filters.
February--
Figured gallons used, amount paid, cost, and profit or loss on 137 large
water users for the year of 1969.
Plan holder was purchased for all water plant plans.
April--
Installed 2000# chlorinator for river water.
Changed Wells #8 and #10 from 2300 volts to 440 volts with remote control
through telephone lines.
1970
May--
Purchased a new five gallon per hour Water Still. We supply distilled
water for the Water Plant Lab, Sewage Plant Lab and Street Department.
June--
Prepared a Capital Improvements Report for the Water Department Distri-
bution System for the years 1970-1974.
July--
New Ingersal Rand Compressor for Calcining Plant.
Installed exhaust fan in #7 pump house.
August--
Received the report on reclamation of plant wastes prepared by Wilson
and Company.
Purchased one new lab table and two new wall cabinets.
September--
New water jacket on Carball Machine.
Made two new refractory linings for Carball Machines.
October--
Made two new doors for lime slakers.
November--
All new rollers on #1 Basin Sludge Collector.
Changed Carball Cooling system from tube bundle to spray type.
December--
New exhaust fan for basement of the Chemical Building.
Poloroid camera was purchased for records of installations.

Cut 12" main in Indian Rock Park and inserted a 12" tee, 12" butterfly
valve, and a 12" solid sleeve. Performed the same work on the 12" main at
Iron and Iowa.
Installed 72 feet Ductile Cast Iron Pipe across Magnolia west of 81 Hi-
Way for future use.
Flushed all hydrants, including Schilling Manor and Air Base.

Mr. Ron Webster, Director of Utilities for the City of Salina, named State
Water Uti 1 i ty ~1an of the Year by the Kansas Secti on of the Ameri can I'later Vlorks
Association.
Rural District #3 Water Pact request to purchase water for Mentor, Salemsborg,
Smolan, Bavaria on a 40 year agreement. This will serve 400 persons.
Stuffing regular billings in envelopes plus inserting pamphlets for Saline
County Health Department was done in May and November, thereby reaching everyone
using water.
Answered questions on a survey of water rates from Wellington, Kansas.
Questionaire on water and sewerage rate received from Wichita State University.
A student from Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas, working on a research paper
requested information on collection of delinquent bills, credits.
Safety Meetings held regularly, also had the Director of Civil Defense speak
on lightning and tornadoes.
Revamped duties of Personnel, thereby eliminating one position.
All sewer use fees for 1970 and 1971 were computed during office hours.
Updated, by checking all businesses and commercial sewer fee charges. Pulling
obsolete registrations and information in index file.
Telephone, counter, general office procedure stressed periodically.

Drive-In-Window has been beneficial and proving more popular.
New Procedure Manual covering all phases of our work in its entirety, is
now in use.
Working in a new building reflects a more congenial atmosphere resulting
in better work being done.
Following is a table showing the percentage of active accounts sent rem-
inders, final notices, and turned off for non-payment for 1966 through 1970.

Received one new sewage pump station located east of the bridge on East
Crawford, Station #39.
Poured concrete walkways at pump stations #8 and #26.
Converted both pumps at Station #24 from conventional packing to mechanical
seals.
Painted eight sewage pump stations.
Installed new air lines from station to wet well in fifteen pump stations.
Replaced four mechanical seals in Smith & Loveless pumps.
Repacked 38 sewage pumps with graphite packing.
Installed new wall heater in north well house at Station #1.

Force main break at South Industries Pump Station, repaired with a 6"
sleeve.

No lost time accidents have occured at the Plant since August 6, 1966.

Four men are certified plant operators. L~e Lucas and Norman Korbe have
C Certification, Lyle Cunningham and Richard Armstrong have B Certification,
and William Johnson has a Maintenance Certification.

Five student groups visited the plant during the year. Nine students from
the Vocational-Technical School worked at both plants December 8 through December
24.
Stainless steel packing glands were installed in six raw sludge pumps.
There were no major breakdowns at the plant this year.
The test records shown on previous page indicate that we have met the State
Board of Health requirements for the main plant and have not polluted the Smoky
Hill River.
