Back;lround:
On April 23, 2001 the City Commission approved Resolution 01-5708, which authorized the Mayor to
enter into a contract with Sprint for T-1 broadband Internet access service. This service was requested to
allow the Computer Technology Department to house City and County web sites internally, improve
reliability of service, and to provide Internet applications that require additional bandwidth (data
transmission speed and volume). At that time, Staff believed that Sprint was the only competitive provider
of the specific service requested. Since that time, Staff has found that at least one additional provider
may be able to provide the requested service at a comparable cost.
As a result, Staff believes that a competitive process is the best course of action at this time. If the
requested action is approved, Staff will solicit competitive-priced proposals for this service and provide a
recommendation for the City Commission's consideration at the June 4th meeting.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of Resolution 01-5714, repealing Resolution 01-5708.
