Consideration of bids for a "Survey Total Station" for the Engineering Division.
BACKGROUND
The 1997 Capital Improvement Program includes an allocation for vehicles and equipment for various city
departments. Bids are taken each quarter throughout the year for these items. The third quarter bids were
received on Tuesday, October 28, 1997. Among the bids received was a "Survey Total Station" for the
Engineering Division. This equipment consists of surveying instruments including a theodolite, electronic
distance meter, data collector, software and accessories which will be used to conduct day-to-day surveying
services by city engineering staff. These services include project design and construction surveys, land
surveys for citizens, land surveys for acquisition of properties, drainage surveys, etc.. The current
equipment used by the Engineering Division is outdated and inefficient. The proposed equipment will
improve productivity and accuracy of the city engineering services as well as the services to our citizens.

. Accessories include tripod, prisms, data collector and mapping software. These are essential items for the
efficient operation of the total station, however they were mistakenly omitted by city staff from this bid
proposal. Some of the bidders submitted the quotes for accessories with their bids, while others were
solicited for quotations after the bids were opened.
The 1997 Vehicle and Equipment budget allocates $15,000.00 for this item. The bids are very competitive
and favorable.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission award the bid to Laser Specialties, Inc. of Olathe, Kansas for
