Change Order No. 1 for the 1997 Storm Drainage Improvements Project No. 97-1001.
BACKGROUND
This project, as you are aware, involves neighborhood storm drainage improvements at ten
(10) different locations throughout the city. The project is substantially complete.
At one of the ten locations, South Eastborough Road, a concrete wall was constructed to
support an existing storm pipeline in an eroded portion of an existing drainage channel.
While under construction, the adjacent property owner, Mr. Stan Lauer, requested that
additional erosion control measures be taken along his property. City staff reviewed the
request and established that some public benefit (50%) would be gained by construction of
an erosion control gabion wall. Mr. Lauer verbally committed to paying the other 50% of
costs. The attached Change Order was then negotiated with the contractor, Shears
Construction, L.P..
The total amount of the Change Order is $20,920.00. The City's share would be
$10,460.00. If approved these costs would be paid from the 1997 Capital Improvement
Program which allocated $450,000 for this project and some other drainage projects. If
approved, the construction will proceed immediately.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve Change Order No. 1 for the 1997
Storm Drainage Improvements, Project No. 97-1001, in the amount of $20,920.00 and
direct staff to complete a formal agreement with Mr. Lauer for the cost-sharing
arrangement.

THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this 8th day of September ,1997 , by
and between the CITY OF SALINA, KANSAS, Owner, and the above named Contractor, modifies the existing
contract dated May 5, 1997 , under the above subject, project and project number in the following
particulars to wit:
1. The specifications and drawings for certain street improvements in the City of Salina, Kansas, dated April -
1997, are hereby amended in the following particulars only; all other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
