First reading Ordinance Number 97-9820 levying special assessments against
certain lots and pieces of property to pay the cost of abatement of nuisances.
Background
This ordinance is required in order to recover the costs involved in the
cleanup of property throughout the City. It includes costs for mowing,
cleanup, sidewalk repairs and demolition. Property owners we're originally
notified that they must abate the nuisance on their property within a specified
amount of time, or the City would do the work and they would be billed for
the cost. If these bills are not paid, they are added to their tax bill as a
special assessment.
A total of $14,345.70 is being assessed to property owners.
Recommendation
Adopt Ordinance Number 97-9820 for first reading.
