SCH661S Proclamation of the City of Salina
WHEREAS, theatre, as in all art, is an important part of the human experience; and
WHEREAS, the arts are an integral part of the unity and pride of a community; and
WHEREAS, theatre allows one to adapt to changing circumstances in artistic and personal
situations; and
WHEREAS, sustained involvement in theatre substantially improves reading proficiency,
self-concept, motivation, and higher levels of empathy towards others; and
WHEREAS, theatre provides us with a way to grow and develop our creativity as well as our
language, memory, and communication skills; and
WHEREAS, theatre provides us with sources of artistic and literary value and equips us with
the tools to appreciate these values; and
WHEREAS, theatre teaches to innovate and investigate different approaches to traditional
ideas, existing artistic works, historical facts, and cultural norms; and
WHEREAS, theatre teaches individuals to build trust, demonstrate integrity, and inspire
others to model ethical behavior that benefits their school and community.
SO NOW THEREFORE, I, Michael L. Hoppock, Mayor, by virtue of the authority vested in
me by the laws of Salina, do hereby proclaim that the month of March is recognized as
THEATRE IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH.
