3.2 Proclamation Fair Housing MonthPROCLAMATION
OF THE CITY OF SALINA
WHEREAS: April 2023 marks the 55th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act which
prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental and financing ofhomes; and
WHEREAS: The Act enunciates a national policy of fair housing for all who live in the United
States without regard to Race, Color, Religion, National Origin, Sex, Familial Status,
or Disability; and
WHEREAS: The City ofSalina is committed to the mission and intent ofCongress to provide fair
and equal housing opportunities for all citizens. The principle offair housing is not
only national law and policy, but is enforced locally under Chapter i3 of Salina City
Code; and
WHEREAS: We celebrate the strides that have been made to remove barriers to fair housing and
acknowledge that acts ofhousing discrimination are repugnant to a common sense of
decency and fairness, and recognize that as a city and nation we still have much work
to do;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Michael L. Hoppock, Mayor of the City of Salina, do hereby proclaim the
month ofApril 2023, Fair Housing Month and encourage the people ofSalina to learn more about
their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act, and the Kansas Residential Landlord &
TenantAct, as we collectively fight housing discrimination within our community.
