PROCLAMATION
Whereas, the city of Salina, Kansas, celebrates our local small businesses and the contributions
they make to our local economy and community; according to the United States Small Business
Administration, there are 32.5 million small businesses in the United States; and
Whereas, small businesses employ 61.2 million people in the United States, and
Whereas, 94% of consumers in the United States value the contributions small businesses make
in their community, and
Whereas, 91% of consumers shop small due to the personalization and customization
components; and
Whereas, shopping small helps keep our small businesses healthy and that keeps our economy
strong; and
Whereas, supporting local businesses not only pay their employees, but they also spend money
at other local businesses. That means by buying local, you help create jobs for your friends and
neighbors, contribute to improved public infrastructure, and invest in your community both
socially and economically; and
Whereas, Behind every small business is a local family.
Now, therefore, I, Trent W. Davis, M.D., Mayor of Salina, Kansas do hereby proclaim, the week
of May 2-7, 2022, as:
SMALL BUSINESS APPRECIATION WEEK
and urge the residents of our community, and communities across the country, to support small
businesses and merchants on Small Business Appreciation Week and throughout the year.
