3.2 Proclamation Fair HousingPROCLAMATION
OF THE CITY OF SALINA
WHEREAS: The fight for fair housing has been more than go years in the making, since the passage
of the Fair Housing Act, as part ofthe Civil Rights Act of 1968; and
WHEREAS: The Act enunciates a national policy of fair housing for all who live in the United
States without regard to Race, Color, Religion, National Origin, Sex, Familial Status,
or Disability; and
WHEREAS: The City of Salina is committed to the mission and intent of Congress to provide fair
and equal housing opportunities for all citizens. The principle of fair housing is not
only national law and policy, but is enforced locally under Chapter 13 of Salina City
Code; and
WHEREAS: We celebrate the strides that have been made to remove barriers to fair housing and
acknowledge that acts ofhousing discrimination are repugnant to a common sense of
decency and fairness, and recognize that as a city and nation we still have much work
to do;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Trent W. Davis, M.D., Mayor of the City of Salina, do hereby proclaim the
month of April zona, Fair Housing Month and encourage the people of Salina to learn more about
their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act, and the Kansas Residential Landlord &
Tenant Act, as we collectively fight housing discrimination within our community.
