3.1 Proclamation Engineer's WeekPROCLAMATION
of
The City of Salina, Kansas
WHEREAS, George Washington, the first President of the United States and founding
father of our nation, was a distinguished military and agricultural engineer, as
well as an excellent surveyor; and
WHEREAS, Engineers have used their scientific knowledge and technical skills in creative
and innovative ways to improve the quality of life and fulfill society's needs;
and
WHEREAS, Engineers are encouraging our young math and science students to realize the
practical power of their knowledge by sponsoring programs such as the Future
City Competition and MATHCOUNTS; and
WHEREAS, Engineers adhere to a strong code of ethics and standards of conduct promoting
personal accountability, ethical decision making and quality work such that
citizens will look to engineers for their knowledge and skills to meet the
challenges of the future; and
WHEREAS, This year's theme for the event is "REIMAGINING THE POSSIBLE'; and it
is appropriate to recognize engineers' countless accomplishments and
contributions during the week we celebrate George Washington's birthday;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Trent W. Davis, M.D., Mayor of the City of Salina, Kansas, do hereby proclaim
the week of February 2011 through February 2611, 2022 as
ENGINEERS WEEK"
in the City of Salina, and call this observation to the attention of our citizens for the contributions to our
health, safety and welfare by Engineers in our community and beyond.
