3.1 Proclamation Daughters of the American Revolution DayPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Mary Wade Strother Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was organized on October 9, 1922; and WHEREAS, the Mary Wade Strother Chapter of the DAR is celebrating their 100th year of service to the city of Salina and the surrounding communities and the country; and WHEREAS, their members range in age of 18-90+ and represent hundreds of patriots who gave their lives and fortunes for freedom; and WHEREAS, descendants of the chapter organizers and founders included some of the early families who first settled in the Salina area; and WHEREAS, members volunteer their time and money to support the veterans in the area including the home in Dodge City and hospital in Topeka, the DAR sponsored schools, the annual observance of Constitution Week, annual Good Citizen Award to high school seniors, the ROTC program, college scholarships, as well as many other civic, environmental and educational concerns. NOW, THEREFORE, I Trent W. Davis, M.D., Mayor of the City of Salina, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the day of October 9, 2022 as Mary Wade Strother Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Day in the City of Salina in recognition of their 100th Anniversary.
