HONORING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
2022
WHEREAS, the 17th day of January is the birthday anniversary of the
late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Dr. King stood before the entire world as a man of
peace, champion of human dignity, and an example of love and a drum
major for justice; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Salina do recognize Dr. King's
contribution to the good of all humankind and they do desire to perpetuate
and implement the ideals expressed in his dream of peace and harmony
among all individuals; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Salina remember the dream of the
Beloved Community is very much alive and that everyone shares in the
responsibility of creating a just society. We must continue to act on the
legacy of Dr. King to ensure the Civil Rights of all individuals.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Melissa Rose Hodges, Mayor of the City of
Salina, do hereby proclaim the day of January 17, 2022, Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. Commemoration Day, and urge that every citizen, of Salina joins
me in extending recognition and honor to the memory of this great leader
and true drum major for justice.
