Item: Amend Vehicles and Equipment Plan to authorize acquisition of Golf Carts and
payment of lease-purchase on fairway mowers from the General Fund vehicles and
equipment allocation.
Background:
Authorization was granted to acquire 8 Golf Carts for the Salina Municipal Golf Course at a
cost of $17,600 as a part of the 2001 Phase I Vehicles and Equipment award.. In addition,
the first of two annual lease-purchase payments on two fairway mowers that were
acquired last year is due on 3/15/2001. This payment is in the amount of $35,155.57.
Total amount required to meet these commitments is $52,755.57.
The Golf Course fund is experiencing some cash flow issues due to the last two months of
inclement weather, which has virtually halted play on the course. As a result, balances are
not sufficient to meet the capital demands listed above and the operating costs. We
anticipate that this is a temporary condition that will improve as the weather returns to
more playable conditions.
Recommended Action:
We are recommending that the City Commission authorize payment of the two capital
expenses out of the General Fund Vehicles and Equipment appropriation, subject to
review of financial condition at mid-year to determine the timetable for re-allocation of
costs to the Golf Course fund.
