Page 1 PUBLIC WORKS/ GENERAL SERVICES 3 BY: BY: Michael Fraser - ITEM: Resolution No. 05-6152 Approval of the Salina/Saline County Solid Waste Management Committee's annual review of the Saline County Solid Waste Plan and their recommendation not to make any changes at this time; affirming the plan as revised in January 2004. - BACKGROUND: In accordance with Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) requirements for Solid Waste Management Committees around the state, the City is required to conduct an annual review of our county-wide Solid Waste Management Plan each year. During that review, we are to consider any changes and/or updates that need to be made to that plan. The 2004 annual review of the Saline County Plan took place at the Solid Waste Management Committee meeting on December 16, 2004. At that meeting no suggested changes were made to the Plan by either committee members or staff. Therefore, the Solid Waste Management Committee is recommending to the City Commission not to make any changes to the Solid Waste Management Plan at this time, and to affirm the plan as it was revised in January 2004. The Salina City Commission provides review and certification of the Solid Waste Management Committee's recommendation concerning the annual review of the Saline County Solid Waste Management Plan. As the governing body that oversees the county-wide Solid Waste Plan, the Salina City Commission must act upon this recommendation concerning the annual review of the Solid Waste Management Plan in order to comply with state statute K.S.A. 65-3405 (0)(1) and regulation K.A.R. 28-29-80(c) and (d)(3)(B). RECOMMENDED ACTION: Staff recommends the approval of Resolution No. 05-6152 adopting the Solid Waste Management Committee's recommendation not to make any changes to the Solid Waste Management Plan at this time, and affirming the existing 2002-2011 plan.
