ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM MIKE MORGAN

The first floor office remodeling is nearing completion with an expected completion date of
November 1. It has been a challenge to remain open and serve the public, but citizens and
staff have been very patient throughout the process. We are pleased with the
improvements and the layout. Stop by and staff will be pleased to give you a tour.
Building permit activity remains strong for both residential and commercial. Weather
conditions and interest rates will determine the activity levels for the remainder of the year.

In the near future, staff will present to the City Commission proposed guidelines for
registration of contractors and tradesman. This important issue has required a lot of study
and compromise to reach a final recommendation. The Building Codes Advisory and
Appeals Board has provided significant input and direction, as well as the Home Builders
Association. The final product represents a workable and equitable ordinance that will
serve the citizens and the contractors.
Major staff projects for the remainder of the year include implementation of Permit Tracking
Software, design and completion of a new filing system for an estimated 25,000 address
files and continued progress towards adoption of a department policy and procedures
"- manual.
