Resolution to install additional stop signs in the city.
BACKGROUND
The Engineering Department continually receives requests from citizens for additional traffic control
devices in the city, mostly stop signs, speed controls and signals. Each request is investigated by
staffto determine the need for additional controls in accordance with federal, state and local traffic
engineering standards. In addition to these citizen requests, staff also closely watches the newly
developing areas to determine the need for traffic controls at those locations. Following is list of
recommended stop sign installations which have been investigated and confirmed in 1997:
INTERSECTION STOP SIGNS ON JUSTIFICATION
1. Meadowlark Lane/ Neptune Avenue Newly paved collector street
Neptune Avenue
2. Meadowlark Lane/ Mars Avenue Newly paved collector street
Mars Avenue
3. Meadowlark Lane/ Haskett.Avenue Newly paved collector street
Haskett Avenue
4. Magnolia Road/ Chapel Ridge Place Arterial street intersection
Chapel Ridge Place
5. Market Place/ Key Avenue Collector street intersection;
Key Avenue additional traffic volumes
6. Belmont Boulevard/ Planet Avenue Arterial street intersection
Planet Avenue
7. Seitz Drive/ Glen Avenue Collector street intersection;
Glen Avenue additional traffic volumes
8. Fairdale Road/ Edgehill Road Sight distance obstructions;
Edgehill Road accident experience.
9. Fairdale Road/ Melrose Lane Sight distance obstructions;
Melrose Lane accident experience.
If the City Commission approves this resolution, the General Services Department will install the
stop signs at their earliest convenience and the signs will be immediately enforceable by the Salina
Police Department.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution.
