ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM
Rita Stevenson,
Director Computer Technology Department
The Computer Technology Department focuses on enhancing the City of Salina's ability
to provide public services through the use of technology. Some of the activities we have
been working on, since our last update to you February 28th, 2022, are listed below.
Novatime time clocks were installed in all locations. Our department worked through
some internet connection issues with the vendor and we believe the product is running
correctly now.
We are implementing our new Computer Service Request system City-wide. The Police
Department was kind enough to be our testing unit and they are fully using the platform
now. This new system allows users to go to a web portal to check the status of their
tickets and submit new tickets. It also has work flows built in that allow the user to submit
the ticket and an approval process to take place if the ticket has security or budget related
items. If the ticket requires department head approval for these types of tickets an email
will be sent to the department head before we assign and process the ticket. This saves
the departments and Computer Technology time as we no longer have to submit our own
emails or make phone calls to get approvals on security or budget related requests.
We have begun installing Utility Billing software on our current Tyler Munis system. We
installed one new server as per Tyler's recommendations. We also installed the
cashiering piece that goes with the new software. There will be a couple more servers to
install and a migration from our current Munis platform to a newer version that is coming
up in the near future that will accommodate the new Utility Billing software.
The new personal computers requested in sub-CIP are in, assigned, and installations
have started. We expect to have those finished by end of third quarter. We also plan to
replace some older computers not on sub-CIP this year with funds we have available.
Starting in the 2023 budget Computer Technology will take over budgeting and replacing
personal computers on a regular cycle. We are looking at replacing 50 a year on a 3 -
year cycle so that personal computers will not get so outdated in the future.
