1.0 CIMCITY COMMISSION INFORMATION MEMORANDUM
ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM Dan Stack, P.E.
Public Works/ Engineering
Ad Astra/Campbell Plaza Update
January 10, 2022
On May 17, 2021, the City Commission
approved a transferee agreement and a
license agreement with Wheat State
Hospitality regarding development of the
property for a new restaurant located at 123
South Santa Fe which adjoins Campbell
Plaza on the north. The license agreement
formalized the terms under which the
proposed restaurant, Prickly Pear, could
utilize a portion of Campbell Plaza as an
outdoor dining space in conjunction with their
restaurant.
The license agreement solidified months of discussions about possible redevelopment of
Campbell Plaza including relocation of the overhead structure in Campbell Plaza to a new
stage location in a public parking lot located in the southwest corner of Santa Fe and Ash
Street which has been informally referred to as the Ad Astra stage. On September 13,
2021, the City Commission voted to proceed with the $322,367.75 guaranteed maximum
price contract (includes
contingency) with Restore
Construction, LLC to construct
the Ad Astra stage, relocate
the overhead structure from
Campbell Plaza to the Ad Astra
stage, and complete the
Campbell Plaza improvements
with new stage construction.
As seen in the photos, the
overhead structure has been
relocated, stage concrete
placed and underground
conduit bored in such that
electrical and lighting can
progress at the Ad Astra
parking lot location. In
Campbell Plaza, Restore has placed footings and is working on the new stage and
associated electrical. Working conditions had been favorable thru the end of 2021 for
construction with Restore making significant progress. Winter weather has now slowed
construction but Restore continues to work toward the March 1, 2022 substantial
completion date.
