The meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at 7:00 a.m. on June
8, 2021, in the Prescott Room.
The following Board members were present: Brendan Burke, Judy Nold, Gerry Cox, Lisa
Mahler, Susan Kelly, Melissa Hodges and Danielle Brown . Others present were Melanie
Hedgespeth, Carol Viar and Sandy Wilcox.
Danielle Brown called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: None
DISCUSSION/ACTION
CKLS Funding
The Board finalized their letter and contract to provide to the CKLS Executive board.
Melanie answered questions from the Board. There is no change in the 2022 MOU.
Melanie has spoken with the Saline County Administrator.Melanie and Amy also met with
the Director of the Gypsum Library, their board president and Carol Viar. Carol Viar is
the Saline County representative within CKLS. Melanie has also talked to the State
Librarian to get more information.
The Board discussed attending the June 16th meeting in Great Bend with the grounds rules
put in place. The Board agrees that it doesn’t make sense to attend the meeting if Melanie
isn’t able to speak. The request for the meeting was provided to have a full, open
discussion. To attend the meeting without the person involved that has the most
information being able to speak is a waste of time.
21-15 On a motion made by Brendan Burke and seconded by Gerry Cox, it was
RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library not participate in
the June 16th meeting with the CKLS Board due to the fact that our Director will not be
allowed to speak. 6 Yea and 1 Nay, motion carried Pg. 1238 06/08/2021.
The Board has directed Melanie to send the letter & contract to the CKLS Board
explaining the Library Board’s position and requested agreement for funding.
The Board also wants to continue discussions with the Gypsum Library Board and our
legislators.
