97-5114 Agr Plane TransferRESOLUTION NUMBER 97-5114 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF AN RB -47H AIRCRAFT TO THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE MUSEUM. WHEREAS, the U.S. Air Force has requested that the City of Salina transfer the RB -47H aircraft currently on display at the Salina Municipal Airport back to the U. S. Air Force, at the expense of the U. S. Air Force, for the purpose of including it in a newly constructed exhibit building of the U. S. Air Force Museum dedicated to an exhibit of Cold War history; and WHEREAS, transfer of the RB -47H aircraft, which is the only surviving example of its type, back to the U.S. Air Force for display in its museum would allow for full restoration of the aircraft to apparent operational condition and indoor exhibition of the aircraft; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Air Force has indicated that the City of Salina would be provided appropriate donor credit in recognition of its support of the effort of the U.S. Air Force; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Air Force has offered to provide another aircraft more appropriate for static display at the Kansas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol Headquarters Building; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to suggest to the officials representing the U.S. Air Force Museum the possibility of incorporation in its Cold War exhibit, the outstanding professional historical exhibit on the Schilling Air Force Base developed by the Smoky Hill Museum. SO NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas: Section 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to take those actions, including the execution of any related documents, necessary to: A. Transfer to the U.S. Air Force, at its expense, the RB -47H aircraft currently on display at the Salina Municipal Airport for restoration and display at the U.S. Air Force Museum as a part of its new exhibit of Cold War history. B. Accept from the U.S. Air Force, at its expense, an appropriate aircraft for static display at the Kansas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol Headquarters Building. C. Offer to the U.S. Air Force Museum a duplicate of the historical exhibit on the Schilling Air Force Base developed by the Smoky Hill Museum. Section 2. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption. Adopted by the Board of Commissioners and signed by the Mayor this 10th day of February, 1997.
