TO TI~ PEOPLE OF SALINA, GREETINGS:
WHEREAS, The Natiot~l Day of Pray*r is a traclifion first proclnimed by the
Continenm]. Congress i~ 1775; and
WHEREAS, in 1952 the Nafionnl Day of Pray*r Breakfast became an event
i..ugurated by leadenhip groups in the United States Senate and the House of
WHEREAS, in 1988, legislation was unanimously ratified by both houses of
Congress and signed by President Ronald Reagan stating ttmt the Natiorud Day
of Pray*r was to be observed on the first Thursday of every May; and
WHEREAS, this year will mark the 46th eomecutive obs*rvanc~ of the National
Day dh'ay,r; and
WHEREAS, it is fi~ing and prop~ to give thanks to Ood by observing this day
in the City of Salina when all m.y acknowledge our blessings and express gratitude
for them, while reco~ i~.i.g the need for slm~henin~ religious and moral values in our
city, state; and nation; and
NOW, TI'IEREFORE, I, KRISTIN M. SEATON, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
