Award of contract for the Markley and Sunset Water Towers-Maintenance, Project No. 04-1427.
BACKGROUND:
A routine inspection of the condition of the interior of the bowls of the Markley and Sunset Water
Towers revealed defects in the protective paint coating.
On December 8, 2003 the City Commission approved a design contract with Bucher, Willis and Ratliff
Corporation to develop contract documents and assist with the bidding process for the maintenance
work at the Markley and Sunset Water Towers.
This project involves the cleaning, surface preparation and painting of the interior wetted areas and
repair of the tank vents at the Markley and Sunset Water Towers. The Markley and Sunset Water
Towers were painted in 1994 and 1993 respectively.
Bids were received on Tuesday May 25, 2004 as follows:

Bucher, Willis and Ratliff Corporation and City Staff have reviewed Cunningham Sandblasting &
Painting Co. Inc. experience record and hav e found no negative respons es regarding quality,
timeliness or follow-up on completed projects. The construction phasing will be monitored closely by
City staff and Bucher, Willis and Ratliff to ensure adequate water supply and fire protection to all parts
of the City at all times.
FISCAL NOTE:
Funding of $100,000 is included in the 2004 Sub-CIP Water Enhancements for this project.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Co mmission award the contract fo r Markley and Sunset Water
Towers-Maintenance Project No. 04-1427 to Cunningham Sandblasting & Painting Co. Inc. in the
amount of $75,321.00
