Minutes: The Minutes of the August 2019 meeting were distributed.
Financial Statement:
The financial statement for July 2019 was distributed. Sylvia addressed how the Kenwood/Oakdale percentage of the
Transient Guest Tax is collected and distributed. Sylvia also addressed how the Cultural Arts Regional Marketing (CARM)
funds are addressed separately on our financial statement.
Statistics:
The July Dashboard was distributed and is attached.
Division Updates
Convention/Military Market
Jo Ann reported the GSA has changed the overnight lodging rates for Federal Government Employees to $96.
State of Kansas remains at $94. Both are FY 20 rates, unless an adjustment is made later.
Jo Ann attended the Kansas Society of Association Executives event keeping Salina in the forefront of meeting
planners.
International Aerobatics National competition events begin September 20for pilots, opening ceremonies on
Sept 21. Many offsite activities are planned throughout the week- long event. Most pilots will be arriving as

early as the 19 and checking out on the 28. Jo Ann and the Airport Authority are coordinating public
viewings/open house and special events.
The Petroleum Marketers Association is hosting a conference at the Hilton Garden Inn Sept 23, 24, 25. Jo Ann
coordinated their evening activities and busing
Kansas Association of Court Managers is hosting a conference at the Hilton Garden Inn Sept 25, 26, 27. Jo Ann
coordinated even activities and busing.
Outside vendors being used this month include, Durham School Services, Dry Creek Buffalo Ranc h, Bel Tree
Sports Market
Kyle reported on the following topics:
KS Fire & Iron Motorcycle Rally will be held in Salina September 18-22 in Salina. Riders from 8 states will be
touring Salina, riding the area and have partnered with the zoo for free admission on First Responders Day the

Working with the Travis at the Fieldhouse and organizers for USBA and USSSA to grow their presence in Salina.
Both have tournaments scheduled in late 2019 and in 2020
The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association will be hosting their annual conference and clinic in Salina Oct. 31-

Tiffany is attending the SPORTS Relationship Conference Sep. 9-12 in Panama City Beach, Florida. Tiff will meet
with rights holders 1 on 1, attend conference sessions, and SPORTSKS will sponsor the closing receptions. This is

Tourism Information
Clare reported on the following tourism information updates:
Clare attended ESTO (Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations) in Austin, TX last month. Clare attended
classes, learn ed about new marketing programs, explore d various marketing options, network ed and compare d
with other Destination Marketing Organizations. Clare came away with new marketing ideas as well as how to
capitalize on the marketing progr ams already in place.
Clare worked with KWCH last month to get more B-roll for upcoming fall commercial spots. Footage was shot at
favorite chain restaurants but fo cused on local Salina dining.

The next KWCH shoot date is scheduled for September 27. Clare is planning on getting footage at the airport, a
hotel, a boutique, and a restaurant. Visit Salina is always looking for models!
Clare has been responding to inf ormation requests as well as making packets and welcome bags for upcoming
reunions and gatherings.
Tourism Market
Sylvia reported on the following tourism market updates:
The ad in the Kansas Travel Guide has been completed and will run in the 2020 guide. Sylvia hopes that the
1½ page spread will be on the inside front cover again this year.
Sylvia purchased a remnant ad in Chicago Life to highlight the Salina Jet Service and the Zoo because of the
Lions that the zoo received from the Chicago zoo that ha ve come with their own fan club.
Sylvia thanked the Flower Nook for hosting the C&T meeting. She spoke about the hard work and
commitment that the owners have put into their shop despite the construction downtown.
Chamber Report:
UAS Tech Forum was held Aug. 21-22 at TPEC. Several legislators were in attendance. Hosted regional
speakers and let to a meeting with a private firm who owns a drone service.
Project Open classes start this month. They recently funded a soap business in Assaria and are working with
3-4 other businesses tha t may qualify for funding.
Working with Salina 2020 on TIF and CID happening downtown. A lot of downtown businesses can qualify
for grants to renovate their buildings.
Imagine Salina project is moving along. The website should be up soon. LaTron is in Hays Tuesday and
Washburn University on Wednesday for job fairs

Candidate Forum is set for Oct. 24 in the Visit Salina Annex will host both the city commission and USD 305
candidates
Business Hall of Fame is coming up late October or early November. 4 po tential inductees two have
confirmed and are awaiting the reply of the other two. Waiting to confirm speaker before the date is set.
Guest Reports:
Rolling Hills Zoo:
Friday is Art Gone Wild with their animal artists. Keepers will talk about the animal artists and how it is an
enrichment activity. The gallery show will then open in November. The membership picnic will follow that
evening.
The following weekend is Dream Night. This is for chronically ill children or children with mental handicap s.
This is a chance for them to explore the zoo at their own pace. Includes a picture and gift for each child to
take home.

Sep. 21 is Public Safety Appreciation Day free admission for first responders.
Oct. 12 is Pumpkin PaZoola kids get a free pumpkin and free gift for kids who come dressed in their
Halloween costume.

Oct. 27 is the 20 Anniversary Celebration. They will have specials and roll back prices to when they
opened in 1999
