Watch your reminder email for LOCATION! 12, 2018 - May 6 National Travel and Tourism Week 2018 Theme: Monthly Board of Directors Results Report Visit Salina Monthly Tasks Result The KSHSAA 4A DII State Baseball & Softball KSHSAA State Tournaments will be held May 24-25 at Dean Evans Stadium & Bill Burke Park. Visit Salina will meet with Fran Martin from KSHSAA th on April 30. Volunteers are currently being recruited. Salina Fieldhouse Activity continues to be brisk at the Fieldhouse. New events upcoming include ASA/USA Softball Youth Indoor Fast-Pitch Tournament (Chuck Vogan), MAYB Qualifier Tournament (Ryan Hujing) USSSA Basketball Midwest Crossroads Regional Championship (James Taylor). Working with SDI to specifically trying to inform the restaurants in the downtown area so they can prepare appropriately with hours of operation, staffing and inventory. Site vists this month include BJ Harris with Ks Shrine Bowl as well as Ramsey Jamoul and Kevin Regan with Midwest eSports Sports Conferences/Trade Shows & Associations Tiffany and Kyle will be attending the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) Symposium April 23-27, 2018. The professional development conference is also a t radeshow where NASC members will have one-on-one meetings with Event Rights Holders. Sports Marketing Tools Video shoots w ill take place through mid-May. Volunteers were recruited as actors. Specifically, families, residents and business men and women are needed to complete the filming. The footage will be used to update some videos on the website, as well as create two new videos, one featuring new jet service in Salina, and the other promoting sports facilities. Visit Salina continues to market the new Sports Facility Guide to prospects. Sports Destinations and VYPE Magazines include ad with the call to action to see visit our website and specifically link to the guide. http://bit.ly/SalinaSportsGuide NCAA Ad in VYPE magazine was well received, and all copies picked up at the event. Salina was featured with a full page ad. Advertising, Marketing Visit Salina hosted its first ever April Business After Hours on Thursday April 5. More than 100 members and partners attended. Messaging included both what we do on a local level, and what tourism means to Kansas, and specifically Saline County. Promotion of the SalinaAE.com ente rtainment calendar continues on all platforms. The App/SalinaAE ads are up in the TPEC concourses. The design is also being used as stuffers in visitor info mailings, on-site at hotels and events, and in print, digital ads. The Visit Salina Guide is in editing stage. Proof 1 is being re-addressed for accuracy. Industry Support A timeline has been set for the roll-out of the Destination Salina program, an incentivized frontline orientation curriculum. Plans for National Travel and Tourism Week 2018 are underway. Watch local media for ads and editorial content. The industry was invited to participate in the TIAK seminar re: Active Shooter training and Disaster Management. Working with local partners Staff met with Convention and Tourism Advisory Committee to report on projects and activities. Promotion on behalf of the cultural roundtable of the Salina Arts & Entertainment calendar - www.salinaae.com and on graphic design for the collective campaign. Sylvia met with Gary Foss from ArkStar to discuss marketing the new jet service from Salina Regional Airport. Designs have been received. Print ads and billboards are going up in the region. A conference call is scheduled with Diana from ArkStar to discuss group rate codes. Sylvia is working with local businesses to organize industry listings and print ad space in the 2019 Official Kansas Travel Guide, and updates to listings on www.TravelKS.com Sylvia is participating in several projects via the Kansas I-70 Association, including the updating of the brochure, plans for 2019 travel shows, and the creation of the I- Travel Information Center (TIC). Sylvia is working with Smoky Hill River Festival on two weeks of spotlight space in both the Belle Plaine and Goodland TICS. Sylvia is handling sponsorship billing and partneri ng with SDI and the STS Committee in planning the SculptureTour Salina UNwrap event for Saturday, May 5. Mark your calendars now! Research, Budgeting, Administration The hiring process for the new position is underway!! Sylvia is looking at potentially e arning hotel data certification t hrough STR in 2018 or 2019. The addition of a subset of primary hotel venues within the STR reporting contract has been very helpful in determining how the new rooms in the inventory are being absorbed, and ultimately how hotel Occupancy, Average Daily Rate and RevPAR (Revenue per available room) are being affected both within the subset, and across the community. Kansas Society of Association Executives Jo Ann is meeting with local meeting venue contacts to promote KSAE involvement through a Visit Salina scholarship program that she ha s developed. Development Capitol Networks center for potential conference in August 2019. United Postal Workers Visit Salina provided services for delegates coming to the sessions held at Holiday Inn Express. Kansas Airport Authority Plans continue for the upcoming summer Kansas Airport Assn conference. Jo Ann is working with primarily on transportation needs and off-site experiences in cluding SculptureTour Salina. Meet Kansas Jo Ann hosted Meet Kansas in the Blue Room at Blue Skye Brewery. Kansas Chapter of the National Assoc. of Housing Annual conference held at the Hilton Garden Inn. and Redevelopment Extra activities at Bel Tree farm with support from Visit Salina. Rural Rental Housing The annual convention was held at the Quality Inn and Suites. Services provided by Visit Salina include tour of Pioneer Presidents Place and dinner downtown, Registrat ion Assistance, Entertainment choices. Kansas Independent College Association Support from Visit Salina with registration assistance. Public Accountants Association Jo Ann met with meeting planner to pla n off-site events for their upcoming conference in Salina. Postmaster of Kansas Conference held at Holiday Inn with registration support from Visit Salina. Kansas Health Information Management Conference held at Hilton Garden Inn. Visitor Association information from Visit Salina.
