Re:
Salina Downtown Lions July 10-11 Baseball/Softball Tournament
Dear Brian:
Jim Ravenkamp, Don Wendt and I are the co-chainnen for the 1999 Salina Downtown Lions
Baseball/Fast Pitch Softball Tournament. The tournament is scheduled for the weekend of July lO-
Il at Bill Burke Park. The Salina Downtown Lions Club intends to charge an admission fee for
adults attending games at the tournament. We request a waiver, however, of the per team charge
assessed at tournaments where admission is charged.
The Salina Downtown Lions Club has an outstanding history of community service. We support
Saline County 4-H, the Smoky Hill River Festival, the Salvation Army, and numerous other
community projects. We have a long history of sponsoring youth baseball and softball teams,
including at least five teams during the 1998 season. We have committed to sponsor at least five
teams for the upcoming season as well. Additionally, our sight committee annually provides over
$6,000.00 of financial assistance to individuals who otherwise would be unable to have regular eye
examinations and purchase glasses. All of the net income from our 1999 baseball/softball
tournament wi!! be used solely for our charitable and community oriented projects.
We ask that our request for waiver be placed on the agenda of the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Board's next meeting. Pursuant to our conversations with you, we will not plan on appearing at the
meeting, unless you notify us that our appearance will be necessary. We appreciate your assistance
with this matter.
Very truly yours,
HAMPTON & ROYCE, LC.
