TREE CYCLING 1998
The 1998 Christmas season provided the City with approximately 2,626 Christmas trees to be
recycled into mulch. There are four drop-off sites, Lakewood, Jerry Ivey, Centennial and
Thomas Parks. The trees are chipped and the mulch used to surface nature trails, mulch newly
planted trees, and landscape areas in the parks and other public areas. Since the program's
inception in 1989, over 22,000 trees have been recycled. Several benefits of this program are:
* Tree lot owners have a free disposal site for leftover trees.
* Landfill space will be saved by converting a waste product into a useful resource.
* Chips are used for mulching trees and other landscaping.
