Convention and Tourism Advisory Committee

The minutes from the June meeting were reviewed.
The latest financial statement was reviewed.
Special Event Grant Program
The Grant Guidelines for the Special Event Program and an application for those funds WE!re provided to
members of the Convention and Tourism Advisory Committee prior to the July meeting. Members were
notified that discussion of the application would be an item on the agenda for the meeting.
At the meeting, the committee was asked to submit a recommendation to the Chamber Board of
Directors. Following lengthy discussion, the members recommended that the Board of DirE~ctos deny the
application for grant funds. Although all agreed that the event is worthwhile, the applicatiol1 did not meet
one of the two primary criteria set forth in the guidelines. This criteria was to "Realize a direct economic
benefit to the community of Salina, specifically in lodging revenues that will translate to transient guest tax
receipts.
Next meeting
The next meeting was set for August 28, 1998 at 7:30 am in the Chamber office.
