The Salina Fire Department received a grant in the amount of $3,400.00 from the Kansas
Department of Health, Kansas Fire Injury Prevention Program. Five hundred (500) ten-year
lithium battery smoke alarms will be installed in the homes of Salina senior citizens and
those homes with children under the age of five.
The Salina Fire Department has partnered with the Volunteer Connection and HeadStart to
train volunteers to install these alarms. As of February 27, 2004, 1 09 alarms have been
installed.
It is the hope of the Salina Fire Department to reduce the fire death and injury rate in Saline
County by installing these smoke alarms which will provide these two high risk groups with
ea rly fi re d etecti 0 n .
