Authorize purchase of a used Combination Jet/Vacuum Unit for Wastewater Collection.
BACKGROUND:
The wastewater collection system
consists of over 230 miles of gravity sanitary sewer ranging from 6 -
inch to 36 -inch pipes. The collection system is cleaned utilizing a high pressure jet and vacuum
system. Currently, the Utilities Department utilizes two jet trucks, two vacuum trailers, and a one -ton
truck to pull the vacuum trailer for
cleaning the collection system.
Jet Truck Unit 705 is a 2000 Sterling truck that has experienced considerable wear and is in need of
major repairs in the near future. Vacuum Trailer Unit 709 is a 2001 model that is nearing the end of its
useful life.
A combination unit is a single piece of equipment, in lieu of three (jet truck, vacuum trailer, one -ton
truck). Combination units reduce equipment maintenance costs since all equipment is on one chassis.
A new combination unit is expected to cost approximately $350,000.
Two vendors in Kansas sell re -conditioned units and offer certified repair technicians for Vactor and
Vac -Con brand equipment. Quotations were received as follows:

A budget allocation of $200,000 for purchase of a used combination jet/vac unit was included in the
2016 Capital Improvement Program, under the category of Vehicles and Equipment.

Authorize the purchase of a used Combination Jet/Vacuum Unit from Red Municipal Equipment Co.,
Kansas City, Missouri, in the amount of $189,000.
