Present: Lana Jordan, Cary Brinegar, Pat Mikesell, Craig Hinca
Staff Present: Grace Peterson, Brad Anderson
Meeting began: 4:35
1. Mikesell motioned to approve minutes from October, Craig seconded the motion.
2. Study Sessions Feedback and policy edits and changes- it was decided that the current policy will be
edited to include a review of the design challenge by City Commission early in the CIP process. City
Manager approval will be taken out of the process. Brinegar and Jordan shared their thoughts about
the study session.
3. Update on USD 305-Peterson reported proposals are underway and should wrap up before the end of
the year. Anderson and Peterson will be presenting update to school board in December.
4. Field House-Peterson reported things are at a stand still. Until the building’s exterior design is
determined we cannot make a final decision about an artist. Site Committee will need to be
responsive to the process.
5. Hawthorne Park – Anderson reported that that Troy Vancil will be holding workshops soon to create
the concrete pieces. The Art Center is allowing him to use the warehouse space.
Community Beautification-The committee discussed a variety of ideas that resulted in the following
suggestions.
Explore four categories for community art and design awards: 1) Transformation of Place, 2)
Collaboration and Partnerships, 3) Unique or Creative Use of Materials, and 4) Celebration of
Heritage or Community History. Details regarding the description of these categories will be worked
on by SAH staff and shared with the CAD Committee prior to the January meeting.
The CAD Committee will discuss how to implement the awards process and review details. CAD
members also offered additional ideas regarding the awards process. This list includes folk art, kid
focused, business sector improvement, downtown development, community fit, temporary
installations, environmental/landscape design.
