Approval of 2004 Computer Technology Plan, and authorization to seek bids and make
recommended acquisitions.
BACKGROUND
During the City's annual budget process, funding allocations are established to finance technology
equipment for the upcoming budget year. Attached is the proposed 2004 Computer Technology
Plan as reviewed and recommended by the Computer Technology Department and City Manager's
Office. This plan is typically included in the City Commission's March consideration of the total
capital improvement program. However, obtaining authorization earlier in the year will allow the
Computer Technology staff more scheduling flexibility to address technology needs without causing
unnecessary delay to users.
The total requested for technology equipment is $313,000. This year's plan includes replacement
of existing hardware/software items, some enhanced technology alternatives and software products
to enhance information tracking as well as technology items for the Computer Technology
Department to support the basic network and server systems. Initial requests total $262,970,
leaving a fund balance of $46,930 which will allow purchase of unexpected items. The breakdown,
by fund, for Computer Technology requests is as follows:

FISCAL NOTE
The 2004 Capital Improvement Program Sub CIP includes $313,000 for Computer Technology
purchases. Note, the 2003 Technology Plan authorized budget was $460,000.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the proposed 2004 Computer Technology Plan, and authorize staff to seek bids and make
recommended acquisitions.
