ITEM:
Award bid for purchase of one (1) unmarked police package vehicle
BACKGROUND:
This vehicle replaces an unmarked police vehicle that was recently transferred to Building Services
to replace a much older vehicle which failed mechanically. High mileage police vehicles in good
mechanical condition, although normally serviceable for non-emergency use, are typically replaced
to ensure reliable emergency response capability. These vehicles would normally be traded-in. In
recent years, however, they have been offered to other non-emergency departments within the city.
This particular vehicle is suitable for use in other municipal service applications, as it is in good
condition, having been well maintained by the City's Central Garage personnel. This cost-saving
practice, suggested by Deputy City Manager Mike Morgan, is practical, prudent and in the public
interest.
The City Clerk opened the following vendor bids on October 21 , 2003:
ONE (1) UNMARKED POLICE PACKAGE VEHICLE
Long McArthur Ford, Salina, KS
Ford Crown Victoria
$22,995.00
Shawnee Mission Ford, Shawnee, KS
Ford Crown Victoria
$21,966,00
FISCAL NOTE:
The 2003 CIP - Vehicles and Equipment has sufficient undesignated funds for this item.
RECOMMENDATION:
Award the bid for one (1) unmarked police package vehicle to Shawnee Mission Ford in the amount
of $21 ,966.00.
