1. CIMCITY COMMISSION INFORMATION MEMORANDUM November 6, 2014 ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM NATALIE FISCHER HUMAN RESOURCES Employee Recruitment The Human Resources Department’s mission is to recruit, retain and develop employees to provide services to the citizens of our community while upholding the City of Salina Organizational Values. Recruitment of employees is an ongoing project and has become more challenging over the last few years. We track our “recruitment sources” by 14 categories and applicants voluntarily disclose what source led them to complete the application. Successful hire information is compared below (excluding public safety hires). Type of Position Average Average Applicants -2014 Applicants -2013 Clerical/Administrative 65.14 70.30 General/Labor 16.57 14.54 Technical 29.25 12.00 Management/Professional 36.67 44.50 While some positions continue to attract several candidates, the numbers for each type are declining. The following charts identify the recruitment sources by type of position for our successful candidates from 2013-October 2014. Only nine recruitment categories are included as five categories did not yield new hires, and not all nine yielded new hires in each type of position. The percentages represent the percentage of successful candidates that came from the respective source. The above numbers provide just recruitment results in terms of applications received. Not reflected in these statistics are the number of candidates that fail to meet the minimum qualifications, nor are application totals for positions with the screening process underway but the selection process not yet finalized. Since the beginning of 2014, we have opted to extend application deadlines for nine different positions. Recruitment challenges will likely to continue so we will look for new recruitment opportunities that could provide us with the right candidates. MONDAY’S MEETING Enclosed are other items on the agenda. If any Commissioner has questions or cannot attend the meeting, please contact me. Jason A. Gage, City Manager
