September 16, 2014 Minutes
Present: Cary Brinegar, Jim Cates, Marlene Leister, Charles Renz,
Staff Present: Grace Peterson, Brad Anderson,
Guests: Randy Hardy and Patrick Mikesell
1. Welcome and approval of minutes. Cates motioned, Renz 2nd
2. Update on the Bicentennial Center project. Artist rendering was presented. Still uncertain of timeline
for installation.
3. Update on Iron Ave. - Williams and Dehamers prelim concept proposals were presented to CAD.
Meeting with Iron Ave Site Committee will be scheduled next week to go over concepts and give
recommendations for one of the two artists to develop a Final Concept. Final concept will come back
to CAD for consideration.
4. USD 305 Bond Projects-Anderson gave an overview for the possible participation that CAD may
have in these future projects that have still yet to be determined.
5. Get Weeird page- Concept of FB group was discussed. Since starting the page it has been very
successful in encouraging members to post photos of beautiful and interesting things found in the
community of Salina
6. CAD FB page- Peterson has been posting regularly to the page to display other works of public art
around the world in an effort to show the diversity and impact of public art . CODA Award for
“Dawn’s Silver Lining” was featured last week.
7. Review of Big Ideas- Goal 2 and sub goals 2c2 and 2c4- Committee members were asked if they
might be interested in creating a program that celebrates individuals, organizations, and companies
that embody the spirit of these goals. They were asked to bring ideas to the next meeting about what
that program might function and be administrated.
