1. CIMCITY COMMISSION INFORMATION MEMORANDUM October 6, 2014 ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM Gary Hobbie Building Services We are pleased to have a new Building Official join our staff and we will welcome Jim Brown on th August 15 his initial starting date. Mr. Brown comes to us with a varied background in construction, construction management, building inspections and as a building official, most recently in Prairie Village Kansas. Mr. Brown is coming to us in an opportune time with multiple school projects beginning in the next few months. Mr. Brown will have staff oversight for three inspection and plan review staff and will eventually oversee our property maintenance code. Mr. Brown’s previous experience fit him well within our city organization. This has not been the largest year we have seen for new building construction, to date or the end of July we have had thirty five new homes and one new duplex constructed, which is lagging behind our lowest year in 2012. We have seen ten new commercial structures begin construction this year with several manufacturing business expansions underway. A total of 1269 Building permits have been issued with a total valuation of $24,855,000 as calculated by city staff, has been issued so far this year. Our new software helps us track permits much easier, and has allowed us to break down our permit projects in a more exacting way which allows us to better determine our staff work load. We continue to work on property maintenance issues when staff has time, and those statistics will be presented later this year.
