Gentlemen and Mrs. Cooper:
It is with a great deal of pleasure and a sense of accomplishment
on behalf of the Citizens' Advisory Committee that I submit the following
report for your consideration. By unanimous vote of the 33 members present
at a special meeting held at the Community Theatre on February 27, 1975,
the Citizens' Advisory Committee recommended that you approve and submit,
to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Salina's initial
application for federal assistance, in the amount of $695,000.00, under
the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.
As you are aware, the application was prepared by the municipal staff
with the cooperation and direction of the Citizens' Advisory Steering
Committee. The input which we solicited and received from the community
at large was of great value and assistance to us. To the best of our
ability we endeavored to identify community needs eligible for Community
Development Funding, establish realistic objectives and develop the first
year's budget and Housing Assistance Plan in accord with the objective
and purpose of the Act.
I regret that I must be out of the City on March 3 when this matter
will appear on your agenda, otherwise I would be pleased to submit the
report in person.
The Citizens' Advisory Committee wants to again express our appre-
ciation to City Manager; Norris Olson, and his staff for the excellent
piece of work they did in this project. As a result of their efforts,
the task of the Citizens' Advisory Committee was both enjoyable and
enlightening.
We are confident that a solid foundation has been laid, upon which
the people of Salina can continue to build a very worthwhile and lasting
Community Development Program.
