Mr. Norris Olson, City Manager
City of Salina
Salina, Kansas 67401
Dear Mr. Olson:
The conversations we have had concerning the possibility of a
transaction between the City and Board of Education, involving
property in the vicinity of Salina High School South, have been
referred to the Board. The Board has reacted favorably to a tenta-
tive proposition that seems to be of mutual benefit to the Board, the
City, and their mutual constituents.
I have made the following tentative proposal to the Board (I
believe you will find it to be consistent with our discussions):
1. The B~ard would be receptive to an offer of $1300 an acre
for approximately twenty-four (24) acres of land to be
developed as a park by the City to the East and Southeast
of Salina High South, if,
2. The City would agree to develop as soon as possible four
(4) tennis courts on a site that is mutually agreeable.
Details of the land involved, and the development of the
tennis courts to be worked out by administrative personnel
of the Board and the City.
The land referred to has an appraised ~alue of approximately
twenty-two hundred and fifty dollars ($2250) an acre. The Board has
an investment in this land of thirteen hundred dollars ($1300) per
acre. The four (4) tennis courts are believed to have a development
cost of approximately twenty-three thousand dollars ($23,000). It
would seem that if the tentative proposition is adopted, neither the
Board or City would have anything to lose, and something to gain from
a facility that would offer mutual benefits.
The Board of Education, Salina USD #305, is expected to respond
favorably to an offer from the City that follows the 'tentative
proposal.
Sin~frely, / . /
