Approval of the plans and specifications for the Ninth Street Corridor Improvements, Project
No. 97-1037, and authorization for staff to set a bid date.
BACKGROUND
The 1998 Capital Improvement Program includes a project to improve South Ninth Street
from Otto Avenue to Magnolia Road. This project, as you know, involves significant
improvements to the corridor including removal and replacement of all pavement,
urbanization of the street with curb and gutter and raised medians, improved traffic signals
and other control systems, improved drainage, landscaping and overhead lighting standards.
The local engineering firm of Wilson & Company has completed the final design of the
project. The land acquisition portion of the project is under way.
The next step is to establish a bid letting date, probably in early March, 1998. A pre-bid
conference will be held for prospective bidders. It is staff' s goal to present a construction
contract for City Commission approval in March and begin work on the project in April,
1998. This schedule will allow the project to be substantially complete by November, 1998.
Also, after the bid letting and award of contract, staff will conduct a public meeting near the
project site with adjacent property owners and interested citizens to review the actual project
design and construction issues.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the plans and specifications for the
South Ninth Street Corridor Improvements, Project No. 97-1037, and authorize staff to
establish a bid date for the project.
