Dear Mr. Kissinger,
This is sent to inform you that the Saline County Humane Association has secured
the professional services of Mr. Bill Bridgeland to conduct an on-siterpigeon consul-
tation in our community.
Mr. Bridgeland resides in Reisterstown, Maryland, and holds a master's degree in
wildlife biology from Cornell University. A self-employed consultant for five years,
he has served public and private clients in the Baltimore area. His work has included
consultations on all nuisance-wildlife species, including pigeons.
Mr. Bridgeland will visit Salina on Saturday, May 20, for a "long day's" survey
of pigeon problem areas. The Humane Association will arrange Mr. Bridgeland's schedule
and transportation. It would be helpful if representation from the Salina Downtown,
Inc. pigeon committee could assist with surveying the downtown area and if a city staff
member could grant access to the Fox Theater building for a careful analysis of that
site. Mall and other areas identified as problem sites will also be Surveyed. From
his observations Mr. Bridgeland will develop a long-term, community-wide strategy to
curb pigeon nuisance problems, which will be presented in the form of a written report
within two weeks of his visit. The report will be directed to interested parties and
released to inform the public.
Because registration for the May 19 urban wildlife conference in Kansas City has
been disappointing, it is possible that the conference may be cancelled. In that
event, Mr. Bridgeland will spend May 19, as well, in Salina--with private funding
secured by the Humane Association for his air transportation. In that event, also,
Paul Richardson, Director, has stated that the Salina/Saline County Health Department
will underwrite Mr. Bridgeland's accommodations in Salina. Time would be reserved
Friday for meeting with personnel of the City/County Animal Shelter to address their
particular questions and concerns about nuisance-wildlife control.
The Humane Association firmly believes that Mr. Bridgeland's survey report will
bring a sense of order and perspective to our city's pigeon control concerns. It is
in that belief that this contribution is made to our community.
Since ely,
Carol J. Bra r ert, president
