Mobile Data Terminal (Public Safety In- Vehicle Laptop) Bids for 2013.
BACKGROUND:
The city of Salina recently solicited sealed bids for 48 custom - configured, rugged laptops, to replace the
existing laptops installed in our police and fire vehicles. Our existing laptops have given us five years of good
service, but our maintenance contract is expiring this year, as planned. We are currently on a five year
replacement cycle for these units, and we are in year five of this cycle. These units are in a somewhat hostile
environment, and full maintenance coverage is essential. Our bid specs mandated five years of warranty
service. The Police and Fire Departments and Saline County Sheriff's Office all use these units. We attempt to
keep all units the same so we can easily clone the machines, and share them between agencies, if the need
arises. We are combining 48 units for the city, and eight units for the county, for a total purchase of 56 laptops.
Sealed bids were opened on April 30, 2013, at 10:00 am. The bids were as follows:

FISCAL NOTE:
This mobile data terminal purchase is part of the 2013 Capital Improvement Program sub -CIP for Computer
Technology and budgeted at $150,000. The City of Salina will pay for 48 of the units; Saline County will
purchase the remaining eight.
CONFORMANCE WITH THE STRATEGIC PLAN:
This item would apply to Goal #3: The city will provide the highest quality of services, consistent with governing
body direction, available resources and staff commitment to quality.
COMMISSION ACTION:
Staff recommends awarding the bid for 48 mobile data terminal laptops to TAG Global in the amount of
$102,576.
