Award of contract for the 2013-2015 Utilities Department Mowing Services.
BACKGROUND:
This contract is for three mowing seasons (2013, 2014, 2015). The mowing services are provided
from April 1 through October 31. The services include mowing and trimming of over 60 parcels of
property as follows: Water Treatment Plant, Schilling Plant, wells, water towers, booster pump
stations, Water Distribution Warehouse, Wastewater Treatment Plant and wastewater pump stations.
Mowing services have been contracted for several years due to its cost effectiveness, quality and
expediency.
Bids were received on March 1, 2013 as follows:

The General Conditions include an increase of 4% at the beginning of year 2014 and 2015 to allow for
increases in labor costs, fuel costs, transportation and other related costs involved in providing the
mowing services. Ponton Construction, Inc. provided mowing services for the 2007-2009 and 2010-
2012 contracts, and the yearly cost in 2012 was $35,142.95.

The 2013 Utilities Department operating budgets include adequate funding for the mowing services.

COMMISSION ACTION:
It is recommended the City Commission award the contract for the 2013-2015 Utilities Department
Mowing Services to Gil’s Lawn Service, Salina, Kansas, for a yearly fee of $21,659.00 (Year 2013).
