Dear Sir:
Attached is a copy of a letter which was provided
each of the City Commissioners. The Board of Health
instructed the department to pursue possible methods
of funding.
Because of the urgency of this project, I am re-
questing that an item "Discussion of Funding the
Vector (mosquito) Control Program" be placed on
the City Commission Agenda for Monday, March 12,
1973o I will be available to provide whatever
information or explanation the commission might
need.
Respectfully,

Subject:
Vector Control
Dear Sir:
The Board of Health, at the February 23 meeting, approved the
Vector Control Programj~hich this department had submitted
for their consideration.. A co~y of the proposal is attached.
The total first year cost of the project '(March 1 - December
31, 1973) is projected at $37,358.00. Since the City and
County customarily support Community Health activities equally~
$18,679.00 would be required from each to implement such a
project. An entomologist, Mr. Dale Gates~ from Kansas State
University visited Saline to review the study in relation to
the area. Ha concurs with the proposal.
The proposal involves purchase of certain equipment items
.which require from 30 ~ 90 days for delivery.' If this depar~'-
merit is to be effective in its effort to minimize the danger
of an encephalitis outbreak this summer, it is essential that
activity begin with the onset, of warm weather (70 degree
temperatures). Pre-larvaciding activity must begin by mid-
March with larvaciding and adult fogging activity dependent on
weather conditions, but most probably beginning by May 15,
1973. We a~e prepared to handle the ~fd-March activity with
existing staff and equipment.. Further'activity would require
your approval and funding by mid-March in order for equipment
to be delivered between mid-April and mid-June, depending on
exact delivery time.
I, Dr. Connolly, or Mr. Harris are available at your con-
venience to answer whatever questions you might have.
Respectfully,
SALINA-SALINE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
