Page 1 8 BY: Darrell Eastin, Fire Chief BY: ~ ITEM: Consider approval of an agreement between the City of Salina and Salina Airport Authority outlining City of Salina Fire Department services to be provided relative to Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF). BACKGROUND: The Fire Department has provided services to the Salina Municipal Airport since early 1966. Originally the Fire Department occupied the former Schilling Air Force Base fire station then designated as Fire Station #3. In 1985, just prior to the Fire Department relocating to the new Fire Station #3 on Belmont Boulevard, the Airport Authority and the City entered into a new agreement. The Authority assumed the responsibility of operating the Aircraft Rescue Firefighting equipment with its own personnel. The City agreed to provide backup equipment and personnel. This agreement reaffirms City services to be provided to include Aircraft fire suppression support, extraction and aircraft rescue, and assumption of Incident Command. The agreement also identifies reimbursement provisions for after hour standbys and City firefighter training. In addition, the agreement addresses cooperative development of Standard Operating Guides, a Training Plan, and Equipment Plan. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommendation is to approve an updated agreement with the Salina Airport Authority for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Services. Resolution No. 03-5951.
