Home/Garden & Health COMMISSION INFORMATION MEMORANDUM VOL. 22, NO. 04 February 4, 2000 ITEM OF INTEREST SALINA HOME AND GARDEN SHOW: February 11-13. We have reserved City of Salina booth space at the 2000 Home and Garden Show. If you would like to participate, we would be happy to schedule you. This is purely voluntary on your part. Some Commissioners in the past have liked to be at a booth and talk with . people. As usual, a reminder that to avoid any problems with Open Meetings rules, only one Commissioner should be in the booth at any time. Here are the hours for this year's show: Friday, February 11 - 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12 - 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13 - 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It won't be necessary for the booth to be staffed at all or any particular times, the decision is up to you. If you are interested and available any hours on February 11, 12 or 13, please bring your calendars on Monday, and we can take a few minutes during the 3:30 portion of the study session to set your Home Show schedule. City information materials will be available at the booth. Again this year, the Parks and Recreation Department will be sharing a booth with the Commission. Also, Permits and Inspection Division, Household Hazardous Waste and the Fire Department will each have booths nearby to assist with questions. ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM PAUL RICHARDSON In 1997, Governor Graves formed the Governor's Public Health Improvement Com- mission (GPHIC) to develop a statewide public health improvement plan for Kansas. Funding for the GPHIC comes from the Kansas Health Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Attached is the first (Executive Summary) of several documents from the GPHIC. This first document is a "problem statement" fulfilling a charge to develop a public health improvement plan for Kansas. The recommended solutions will be included in a later document. If anyone is interested in reading the document in it's entirety, it is available from the Salina-Saline County Health Department by contacting Paul Richardson, 826-6600. -over-
