Award of contract for the 2012 Crack and Joint Sealing, Project No. 12-2899.
BACKGROUND:
The annual crack and joint sealing program is the most essential preventive maintenance component
of our annual street repair program. Approximately 16 centerline miles of streets will be sealed some
of which will then be microsurfaced as well. A map of the streets to be sealed is attached.
Six bids were received for this project on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, and are as follows:

The low bidder has performed well for the City on this same proj ect in both 2010 and 2011. For
comparison, the unit prices were $1.02, $1.08, and $1.21 for 2010, 2011, and 2012 respectively.
FISCAL NOTE:
The 2012 sub-CIP budget allocates $200,000 in gas tax funds for the Crack Sealing project. This
award will reduce the remaining Gas Tax portion of the budget to $888,463.
COMFORMANCE WITH STRATEGIC PLAN:
Goal 3 action item: Maintain a stable operating budget for the delivery of core public services, while
investing as many financial resources as practically possible into maintaining and developing the
public infrastructure.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Commission award the contract for the 2012 Crack and Joint Sealing,
Project No. 12-2899, to Missouri Pavement Maintenance, in the amount of $217,899.22 with a 3%
construction contingency ($6,536.98).
