Award of architectural contract fo r the remodel of the Police Admini stration Building converting a
basement storage room into a women’s locker room. City Project No. 11-2566.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department’s current women’s locker room consists of: a si nk, shower stall, two toilets,
and 19 half lockers. This serves 40 female empl oyees, which 14 are offi cers. The remodel will
provide: a shower with dressing area, two dressing rooms, two toilets, two sinks and 25 full height
lockers.
Proposals were requested with one proposal received for this project. This proposal was submitted by
DMA Architects of Salina, KS in the contract amount of $12,500. DMA Arch itects has satisfactorily
performed work in the past for the City of Salina
FISCAL NOTE:
The 2011 CIP budget allocates $103,000 in funds for this project. The architectural services will cover
the design phase with cost estima tes, construction drawings, bidding phase, construction
administration and reimbursable printing costs. This award will reduce the remaining portion of the
budget to $90,500.
COMFORMANCE WITH STRATEGIC PLAN:
Goal 3 Action Item: Maintain a stable operating budget for the delivery of core public services, while
investing as many financial reso urces as practically possible in to maintaining and developing the
public infrastructure.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff submits the following options for City Commission consideration.
1. Award the contract for architectural services to DMA Architects in the amount of $12,500.
2. Reject the bid and rebid the project at a later date.
3. Provide another option or give further direction to staff.
City staff recommends option 1.
