4.3 We Believe In Marriage Day'J~H,~RE~ 'AS~ the foundation_ of America's greatness is the strength
of its families; and
WHEREAS~ the family is established on the relationship of
marriage between mother and father; and
WHEREAS~ there is an urgent need to once again make the nuclear
family the basic building block of society; and
WHEREAS, marriage should be viewed as the most serious
commitment between man and woman~ filled with mutual
respect and open communications; and
WHEREAS, it is our hope that the institution of marriage will
once again be recognized as the basis of American society:
NOW~ THEREFORE~ I, Merle A. Hodges, Mayor of the City of Salina~
Kansas~ do hereby proclaim February l~, 1982~ Valentine's
Day~ as
WE BELIEVE IN MARRIAGE DAY
in the City of Salina, Kansas~ and call upon all citizens
of our City to support efforts to promote the permanence
and stability of marriage.
